Little Boxes….

If you already cherished the doubt about the influence in how we dress by advertising, mainstream fashion magazines (most of them advertising containers) and the big clothes distributors, this is the ultimate web to confirm it…. Exactitudes

An anthropologic, interesting and funny collection of pictures, shot during the last 20 years by two Netherland artists that you can’t miss.

I knew about Ari Versluis y Ellie Uyttenbroek  by an article about Exactitudes. ( Here, in Spanish).

It shocked me because it came to confirm what I was thinking in the past 10 years, the process of humanity cloning ! :D. In fashion the cloning had always existed but is now global…same style, same brands, same Little Boxes.

When I was a teenager, the big clothes chains didn’t exist already and I was so lucky to have my mum, who was a great dressmaker, and as crazy as me, so I was able to dress following Madonna Style, the Mod movement style or even like Robert Smith in a feminine version. Yes, we all have a past!! ;P  The need of belonging to a group is natural and human, and it has existed trough all the human history. We dress to express ourselves as part of a group, as much as to show our individuality. But with the “fast-fashion” boom, this natural human aspiration has become global, standard and at the end, boredom. All the same, all Little Boxes.

Much more modestly than this wonderful pics collection, you can follow my Pinterest board, “little boxes…” where I collect the fashion clones that I’m finding in the internet.

This post and the board tittles, come from the 1962 song by Marvinia Reynolds, popularized by Pete Seeger, although I discovered it thanks to Walk off the Earth in this highly creative video

Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,1
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.
There’s a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same…..

Hoping that you walk off the box….see you soon!
